Deep Sea Tuna Fishing

The mighty blue fin tuna is a wonderful creature. The sporting angler loves them because of their size and the size of the fight in the fish. When you hook a tuna weighing up to 2000 pounds and when it can ‘fly’ through the water at speeds of up to 60 mph, you are in for one heck of a battle.

We have already discussed the use of nature in finding tuna schools such as watching for flocks of sea birds circling above. Sharks and whales in the area is also sometimes another indication that blue fin tuna are in the vicinity.

If you are an experienced angler you will know how much patience and strength you need to land one of these great creatures. Patience because it may take hours to find let along hook a blue fin tuna. And then strength because if you do hook this fish, you will quickly discover it is capable of extraordinary endurance and energy-sapping activity.

Again experienced anglers will know what a fighting chair is together with a bucket and harness. This can be called extreme fishing and even the rods are placed in special holders which themselves are bolted to the boat.

An inexperienced angler should be well aware of what is involved before attempting to fish in this way. This is heavy duty fishing! Do not be in a hurry to take on this exhilarating experience. In fact simply going along on a trip where an experienced angler goes through the, sometimes many hours, of landing a giant blue fin is a way of understanding just what is involved. And there are many anglers who will tell you that even just seeing a mighty tuna free in the ocean is an experienced well worth having.
