Landing Big eye tuna

• Can swim at great depths
• Often the fattest of tuna and big money earners especially in Japan
• Usually found in water of colder temperatures
• Trolling at boat speeds of 4-12 knots is recommended
• Live or dead bait effective using anchovies, slimy mackerel and large squid
• Usually caught using bait at great depths
• If lures are used try jet head skirted lures, resin head plugs and cedar jigs
• Locate these fish using sonar and then set deep baits
• Electric reels are preferred because of the huge effort required to land such a large fish from a great depth
