Lure Away

You cannot run a lure at too fast a speed because the tuna are fast if not very fast. You should know that some fish have been clocked at speeds your boat could never approach.

Larger lures create a bubble trail so always mix a larger lure in with your smaller ones. The bubbles attract the fish. Some boat operators will even pump air into the sea to create the disturbance.

The professionals call a bubble trail a smoke trail which is pretty amazing seeing it’s contained within the sea.

We have already discussed the colors of lures and it might be interesting to know exactly what the professionals favor.

When chasing smaller tuna, the experts use any type of 6 inch lure and have found these colors to bring the best results:

• red and white
• blue and silver and
• green and yellow

When chasing bigger tuna like the Yellowfin, larger lures – 8 – 10 inches – are used and darker colors have brought much success. Colors like blue, black and purple with sometimes pink being popular.

The main rule favored by the professionals is one which can apply to all anglers. If the lure you are using is not alluring to the fish, change your lure. The best rules in fishing always include the belief that you create your own luck and don’t be afraid to try something different.
