Just as there are several species of tuna, so too there are several tips which should help anglers catch their particular fish. • Prefers the temperate waters of the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans

• If trolling with lures these have proved successful – knuckleheads, large minnows, skirted tuna lures and hex head lures

The mighty blue fin tuna is a wonderful creature. The sporting angler loves them because of their size and the size of the fight in the fish. When you hook a tuna weighing up to 2000 pounds and when it can ‘fly’ through the water at speeds of up to 60 mph, you are in for one heck of a battle.

Sharks and whales in the area is also sometimes another indication that blue fin tuna are in the vicinity.

In fact simply going along on a trip where an experienced angler goes through the, sometimes many hours, of landing a giant blue fin is a way of understanding just what is involved.
