The Bait for Your Hook

Finally getting the hook selection right is not much use to you if you have the wrong bait. Again it is a matter of balance. You need enough bait to hide the hook but a hook which is large enough to hold the bait.

Start with the bait and allow the size of the bait to determine the size of the hook.

The best teacher in making hook and bait selection is trial and error. Choose the bait and then the appropriate hook and take note of your success or failure. When you find the happy mix, the right balance, remember it and use it again and again. Mind you, chatting to a successful tuna angler can save a lot of time and effort.
